BLOOMINGTON, IL -- On November 4, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) successfully petitioned St. Clair County’s 20th Judicial Court to absolve a temporary restraining order that the court had granted to East St. Louis Senior High School. The IHSA ruled on October 26 that the East St. Louis Senior High School football team would forfeit 10 victories from its 2009 season, five victories from the 2010 season and be removed from the 2010 IHSA Football Playoffs after the team was found to have used an ineligible player in those contests. The court granted East St. Louis Senior High School a temporary restraining order on October 28 on the basis that the school be given additional time to review the information from the investigation. After allowing additional due process, the IHSA once again determined on November 3 that the school had used an ineligible player and had inadequate policies in place to prevent the infraction. Earlier today, the Association presented its findings to Judge Richard Aguirre and asked that the temporary restraining order be absolved.

The absolution of the temporary restraining order by Judge Aguirre results in the East St. Louis Senior High School football team forfeiting the 15 aforementioned contests and being removed from the 2010 IHSA Football Playoff field. Belleville West High School, who was defeated by East St. Louis Senior High School in the first round of the playoffs, will return to the playoff field and face Belleville East this weekend in a second round contest. No seeds will be changed as a result of the switch.

“This is an important ruling that reinforces our ability to govern our member schools,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “It is the obligation of each member school to abide by those rules and to be accountable for the repercussions that accompany failure to comply. This is an unfortunate incident, but it does not change East St. Louis Senior High School’s status or standing as an IHSA member school. It is our goal to now work with the school’s administration to improve the policies and procedures that allowed these violations to occur, in the hopes that this situation never repeats itself.”

IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman will be available for a media teleconference call tomorrow (Friday, November 5) at 1 p.m. (central) to debrief media on the events of this matter and answer questions.

BLOOMINGTON, IL -- The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced today that after allowing East St. Louis Senior High School additional due process per a ruling from St. Clair County’s 20th Judicial Court, the Association has reached the same decision that was originally announced on October 26, which will require the East St. Louis Senior High School football team to forfeit 10 victories from the 2009 season, five victories from the 2010 season and be removed from the 2010 IHSA Football Playoffs.

“We respectfully followed the guidelines put forth by Judge Aguirre in allowing additional time for the East St. Louis Senior High School administration to review the pertinent information in this investigation,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “Ultimately, we reached the conclusion that East St. Louis Senior High School did not have the procedures in place to comply with our rules and regulations.”

The IHSA will return to court on Thursday, November 4 to ask that the temporary restraining order granted to East St. Louis Senior High School on October 28 be absolved.

“In order for the ruling that we made today (November 3) to go into effect, legally, the restraining order must first be absolved,” added Hickman.

Bloomington, IL. -- On September 3, 2010 the match-up between defending Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state football champions Wheaton Warrenville South (7A) and Maine South (8A) was carried exclusively on ESPN3.com, ESPN’s 24/7 live broadband sports network, as well as ESPNU.

The IHSA and its broadcast partner When We Were Young Productions (WWWYP) have announced in conjunction with ESPN that the 2010 IHSA Football State Championship contests will be carried live on ESPN3.com, marking the first time that ESPN has broadcast a high school state association state final event in any sport on any of the network’s platforms.

“Illinois is a state with a rich tradition of high school sports and a fan base that is passionate about its local high school teams,” said Damon Phillips, vice president, ESPN3.com. “We look forward to the 2010 IHSA Football State Championship games being the first state high school association state finals to be broadcast on ESPN3.com and the ESPN family of networks.”

The IHSA’s eight state championship football games will once again be broadcast around the state on local television via the IHSA TV Network when the contests unfold at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium in Champaign on Friday and Saturday, November 26-27. ESPN3.com will carry the live television feed from all eight contests, which can be accessed via www.ESPN3.com. The IHSA’s webstreaming portal, www.IHSA.tv, will not carry the games live, but will have each contest archived after its conclusion.

“I am not sure there is a company or organization on the planet that has defined sports and sports coverage in my lifetime more than ESPN,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “The opportunity to align ourselves with ESPN3.com is very exciting and unique to say the least.”

The IHSA and WWWYP signed a seven-year contract in September making the Madison, Wisconsin based group the IHSA’s television and internet streaming broadcast partner. Bloomington, IL. -- The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced today (October 26) that East St. Louis High School’s football team will be forced to forfeit five of its nine regular-season victories from the 2010 season and all 10 of its victories from 2009, including three playoff victories, after the team was found to have used an ineligible player in the contests.

As the result of the forfeitures, East St. Louis is no longer eligible for the 2010 IHSA Football Playoffs, which are scheduled to begin on Friday.

“No one wins in these type of situations, ” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “And while we appreciate the school’s cooperation with our investigation, member schools have an obligation to abide by our association by-laws, including the need to have clear enrollment processes in place and the ability to verify residence issues.”

The IHSA opened an investigation on one East St. Louis football player after Week 5 of the regular-season. That player did not play after the fifth game and was eventually found to be ineligible on October 14, while a second player from the team was also found to be ineligible on October 22. Both investigations centered around issues related to IHSA Residency By-laws.

Information recently obtained from the St. Clair County State’s Attorney contradicted previous information from the investigation on one of the players that led to the forfeitures. The State’s Attorney verified that one of the players had a pre-trial electronic monitoring bracelet at an address in Belleville in April, 2009. The address associated with the bracelet was transferred to a residence in East St. Louis in September 2009, but remained there for just over a month before being transferred back to the original address in Belleville in October 2009.

East St. Louis’ scheduled first round playoff opponent in Class 7A, Belleville West, will now travel to play Belleville East in the first round of the playoffs. O’Fallon High School, who becomes the top seed in the quadrant as the result of earning a victory from an East St. Louis forfeit, will now receive a bye in the first round and face the winner of Belleville East vs. Belleville West in the second round.

“Certainly, the timing of this matter is less than ideal, but as much as some would have liked for us to move faster with this investigation, to do so would have been unfair to both the student-athletes and East St. Louis High School. It was imperative for everyone involved that we gave due diligence to the process and uncovered all applicable information before reaching a decision, ” said Hickman.

“After giving careful consideration to all options, we felt that the option that impacted the fewest amount of schools and would enable the playoffs to begin as planned was to adjust the quadrant in which East St. Louis had been assigned,” added Hickman. “The fact of the matter is that we had a complete field of 256 teams on Saturday. To have included the first non-qualifier as a replacement for East St. Louis in the field of qualifiers would have impacted nearly 100 schools, and, in the end, we didn’t believe it was fair to those schools that had made travel and scouting plans for their assigned first round games.”

Did you see the performance in week 5 by the Greenville QB, Brady Huber against the Alton Marquette Catholic football team?
He was "22-29, 472 yards, 1 interception, 8 TDs.  Threw TDs to four different receivers and was sacked once."

Because when the game was played, it went largely unnoticed.

The next week has some amazing numbers as well in a loss.  Mostly because they didn't hardly even have the ball in the second half.

Huber entered Friday's Week 6 game with Pana with passing numbers including 1,789 yards and 24 touchdowns. He was 25-for-42 on Friday for 290 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. But the Comets ran just four plays in the third quarter, and their second-half time of possession was just 1 minute 27 seconds.

What is this? Well, a few years ago I noticed something interesting. I believe it was Hamilton County, they had a front loaded schedule of low win opponents. By all appearances based on W-L and week of the year you would consider them to be a shoe-in for the playoffs. To say that they wouldn't make the playoffs at that time looked silly unless you looked deeper.

But there it was in 2008, Hamilton County sitting on the edge of the playoffs at 4-2 in week 6. Really they only needed one win to get enough playoff points and be in the playoffs. The next three weeks brought Johnston City (lost 47-0), Carterville (lost 50-0) and Fairfield (lost the play in game to 4-4 Fairfield by a score of 23-6).

These teams are listed in the top of the bracket in the playoff outlook but seem like they might fall out. They need a strong showing against the strongest part of their schedule. What teams will that be this year? Please give examples of the teams and the remaining schedule. I have a few. Not saying that these teams will not make the playoffs, just that they have to prove it against a harder schedule then what they have faced so far.
