  'Potential' On the Field at Grayslake Central

  Grayslake Central missed out on the IHSA postseason in 2009, winning just four games. However, in three of those three wins, the Rams defense held their opponents scoreless. Two of their losses were by two touchdowns or less.

  The Rams finished fifth in the Fox Division of the Fox Valley Conference, posting wins over league foes, Grayslake North (28-0), and Woodstock North (27-0). Five of their opponents were playoff qualifiers, and all of them won at least one playoff game.

  With seven starters back on offense, and five returning on defense, head coach Nick Goshe was to the point on his outlook for the 2010 team, "(Has) Potential." On the offensive line, Chris Loeffl, Connor Hirt, and Nick Celeslie are back. Running Backs Joey Valdivia and Vinnie Culhane return to the backfield. Valdivia led Grayslake Central in both rushing yards and team scoring. Wide Receiver Cam Neely and Tight End C.J. Stempeck are back.

  Defensively, Jimmy Soto (DL), Lee Brown (LB), Kevin Hein (DB), Cam Neely (DB), and Will Reed (DB) return for a Rams defense that allowed just 17 points game, and posted three shutouts. Hein was an All-Conference selection in the Fox Valley last season, and led the Rams in tackles.

  Newcomers at Grayslake Central will be; Jahard Nelson (RB), B.J. Jennings (C), Kristian Meehan (LB), Jake Paust (LB), Devin Osburn (WR), Jimmy Molitor (TE), DeAndre Nabriet (S), Steven Burgess (S), Dylan Hay (C), and Jon Gurchak (WR).

  In the Fox Division of the Fox Valley Conference, the Rams will be tested once again. Woodstock and Crystal Lake Central both posted, (5-1) records in 2009. The Bluestreaks edged Central, 37-36, in their regular season meeting. The rest of the league consists of; Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge, Johnsburg, Grayslake North, and Woodstock North. "(Grayslake Central will be) competitive with everyone," Goshe says.

  Goshe has coached four seasons, three at Grayslake Central. He is (5-22) guiding the Rams. He coached Westchester St. Joseph for one season, and his overall coaching record is, (5-31). Goshe played collegiately at Division-III power, Mt. Union College.

  Grayslake Central assistants are; Ben Ault, Andrew Burton, Dan Catanzaro, Matt Bridges, Chuck Wittington, Brent Pitt, Tommy Long, Bob Gurchak, Matt Erlenbaugh, Matt Dangelo, Chris Ellingsen, Reggie McClure, and Kevin Konsler.

  The Rams are looking for their first winning season since, 2003, when the team finished (8-3).
