Chicago Football (Chicagoland Area Code) Region of Illinois
The Chicago Football region are schools with the host city having a Chicagoland area code. In 2010 that is 223 football teams. Illinois Pigksin splits up Illinois high school football teams in five regions. The regions are set by area codes with Chicago being any school that is not in the original four area codes. We feel that while the region and division might seem arbitrary, each area of Illinois has an unique feel to it and the school makeup, conferences, population density, region and in some sense even style of football and coaching is different.
Most players, coaches, fans, know their team and teams in their conference and regional teams. The 618 Area code is both Southern Illinois and Metro-East. The 217 Area code is Central Illinois, like a belt across the state. The 309 is Western Illinois while the 815 is Northern Illinois. To Chicago football fans everything outside of Chicago is considered downstate, so lets call Chicago, Upstate.
