Three All-Conference Orphans Return at Centralia

IHSSN.net PreviewThe Centralia Orphans struggled to a, 1-8, finish last season. The lone victory for coach Ray Kauling was during week one of the 2009 season, a 42-35 shootout over Salem. The offense scored 20+ points in five of their nine games, but the defense gave up 47 points/game. Five of Centralia's opponents last season qualified for the IHSA Playoffs.

Size returns on the offensive line, with three starters back, including South Seven All-Conference pick Nick Renfrow (6'2" 250 Sr.). Gavin Heern (6'2" 250 Sr.), and Skyler Guidish (6'3" 275 Sr.) will anchor the O-Line as well. The three will also be up front on the defensive side of the football.

Other offensive starters back include; Alex Fritch (6'2" 175 Sr. WR), Braydon Lockwood (5'11" 170 Sr. WR), and Adrian Williams (6'1" 210 Jr. RB). Fritch was an All-Conference selection in the South Seven a season ago. Defensively, Fritch will also line up in the secondary, along with Lockwood, who was an all-conference pick at Defensive Back. Williams will play a Linebacker position.

    Newcomers include; Stephonta Moore (5'11" 160 Jr. WR/DB), Dylan McAbee (5'10" 170 Jr. WR/DB), Matt Baumgartner (6'1" 165 Jr. WR/DB), Troy Miller (6'2" 225 Jr. RB/LB), DeAndre Downey (6'2" 195 Jr. WR/LB), C.J. Schneider (6'0" 170 Jr. QB/DB), Tanner Pitts (6'2" 220 Jr. OL/DL), and Dymen Sodsaikitch (5'10" 160 So. QB/DB).

Ray Kauling has been coaching for nine seasons, and has a (65-33) career coaching record. He also was the head coach at Breese Mater Dei. Kauling played college football at Illinois College in Jacksonville. His assistants this fall will be; Nick Hollenkamp (Defensive Coordinator), Brad Goewey (Quarterbacks & Head Sophomore Coach), Ryan Klier (Wide Receivers, Secondary, & Sophomore Defensive Coordinator), Terry Heern (Line Coach), Tom Siegler (Freshman Head Coach), and Todd Bauer (Assistant Freshman Coach).

Centralia is looking for its first playoff berth since 2001, and the Orphans have not won a postseason game since the 1977 season, under head coach Don Smith.
