Playoff Run in 2010 Among Goals For Titans

IHSSN.net PreviewThe Tri-County Titans football team is coming off a berth in the IHSA Class 1A playoffs, falling to conference foe, Villa Grove in the first round. The Titans downed Villa Grove in their regular season matchup (20-19), but fell in the postseason, (12-7).

This year, making a run in the playoffs is among the team's goals. "Our goals are to compete for another conference championship and make a run in the playoffs," head coach Adam Clapp said. The Titans, along with Villa Grove both finished, 6-1, in the Little Okaw Valley, but the IHSA recognized Tri-County as the league champion.

"Our conference is going to be solid this year. Coach Musselman has a great team coming back as well as Coach Elder at South Piatt. I think the addition of Gerald Temples to the LOVC, makes Arcola a contender as well." Other league members are; Arthur/Lovington, Cerro Gordo, East Central, and Martinsville.

Eight starters are back, seven on offense, and seven on defense. Offensively, Max Miller (5'10" 190 Sr. RB), Tyler McGregor (5'8" 160 Jr. RB), and Jesse Clifton (6'1" 160 Sr. WR) return at the skill positions. The offensive line will be experienced, with four starters up front returning; Chris Silva (6'0" 200 Sr. OL), T.J. Blake (5'10" 200 Jr. OL), Skyler Knox (6'2" 240 Jr. OL), and Brandon Walsh (6'1" 190 Jr. OL). "Skyler Knox, T.J. Blake, and Max Miller are really coming along, and I expect them to be great leaders for us."

On defense, Silva, Knox (2nd team all-conference), and Walsh will be up front on the line. Blake returns at Middle Linebacker, coming off a 104 tackles season and a 2nd team all-conference selection, and the secondary is intact with Miller at Strong Safety, Luke Clapp (5'9" 160 So.) at Free Safety, and McGregor at Cornerback. Clapp had 4 interceptions as a freshman. "We will be young, but a lot of our young guys gained experience last year at the varsity level."

Newcomers that should see time this fall will be; Nic Turner (6'0" 230 Sr. OL/DL), Doug Findley (5'10" 160 Jr. WR/DB), Tanner Bodle (5'10" 170 Jr. TE/LB), Michael Gobert (5'10" 180 Jr. RB/LB), Dakota Kirchner (5'7" 140 Jr. RB/DB), Wyatt Walsh (6'2" 200 So. OL/DL), and Luke Clapp (5'9" 160 So. QB).

Adam Clapp enters his second season as head coach of the Titans. He played college football at McKendree University, where he was a defensive back and return specialist.

Assistant coaches at Tri-County are; Nathan Clapp, Brock Neibuhr, Nate Milone, Nick Bialeschki, and Chris Miller.

Tri-County is a co-op between Oakland and Kansas High Schools.

New Arcola head coach Gerald Temples was head coach at Oakland from 1982-1984, where he had a 22-7 record in three seasons, with two playoff berths.

Tri-County Titans football alums Cody Meyer and Derek Scott are playing college football at McKendree. Meyer is a kicker, and Scott is a running back.
