  Only Five Upperclassmen Return For 2010 Knights Campaign

  Arthur/Lovington finished the 2009 season with a (5-4) mark, but a lack of playoff points kept the Knights out of the Class 1A postseason. The team fell by a point (13-12) in their season opener last year, to Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac, and dropped to (0-2) on the season with a week two loss to Georgetown-Ridge Farm. The Knights, then reeled off three straight wins (Arcola, Martinsville, Cerro Gordo), before a week six loss to South Piatt. Wins over East Central and Tri-County put the team at, 5-3, heading into their final regular season showdowna against Villa Grove, a 35-20 loss.

  Just three starters return for the Knights. A.J. Gee (6'0" 200 So. OL), Zach Riley (5'11" 210 Jr. LB), and Kody Beck (6'1" 165 Sr. DB) are the only starters from last year's team. "We graduated 11 seniors off of a 2009 squad of 23. We only have one returning senior and four juniors," head coach Dale Schuring said.

  There are too many newcomers to mention, Schuring said, heading into the summer months. "No idea of who will be where." He added, "We will be extremely young and inexperienced."

  Playing in the Little Okaw Valley Conference, the league title was shared by Tri-County and Villa Grove (6-1). Arthur/Lovington and South Piatt both finished (5-2) last season. Schuring sees Villa Grove as the team to beat in 2010. "Villa Grove, Tri-County, South Piatt, Arcola, Cerro Gordo, Arthur/Lovington, East Central, Martinsville," Schuring listed as his conference projections.

  Dale Schuring has seven seasons as head coach, compiling a (55-20) career record. The Knights have gone to the playoffs in five of his seven seasons, and made a state semifinal appearance in 2004, and quarterfinal appearances in 2003 and 2006.
