Illinois Pigskin has three previous years of working with media professionals, as 618 Football. Gathering statewide football scores live on Friday nights during the games, scores submitted via txt message, and updated on the website by fans, will continue, for every Illinois high school game.
We have had an interesting partnership with media folks: radio, newspapers, sports websites, TV, and more.
- I am the webmaster for the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The 618 Football project started as my interactive multimedia masters project, after getting my degree in computer science at SIU.
- I have had partnerships with radio shows and personalities. Appearing in studio or calling in to shows like Southern Illinois Sports Voice with Mike Murphy and Scott Hudson, the Sports Couch on TV (Public Access) + Radio show with Randy Olson, talking with Jim Powers of the High School Sports Caravan on 590 the Fan KFNS, and chatting live with high school sports fans with WSIL-TV3 Darren Kinnard using the station's Cover it Live Blog/Chat.
- Providing all of the area scores for Friday football games to the web, which are read on air via radio game broadcasts as around the league or scores around the area.
- In the past we have provided downloadable and archived radio broadcasts of games covered by WAKO Radio in Lawrenceville.
- On air updates via txt messages to the broadcaster for all games on WDQN Radio in Du Quoin and WJPF in Herrin.
- Area photos and updates and articles have been printed in the DuQuoin newspaper, the Du Quoin Evening Call
- Updates of local high school athletes gone pro, such as Du Quoin and SIU Saluki Nick Hill, via his website at http://www.nickhillfootball.com. These updates are sent to newspapers and also to local TV news stations.

Galesburg Register-Mail Newspaper - Movin’ on up Having grown up in southern Illinois, one of the sites I like to keep an eye on during football season is 618football.com, which helps me stay up to speed on all the gridiron happenings from my hometown area code.
This year, the boys at 618football.com are branching out to the rest of the state with a new site called illinoispigskin.com that will cover every area code in the state.
The seemingly tireless Beau Spencer, who runs the Illinois High School Sports Network and broadcasts a bevy of area contests, will handle the 309 area code portion of the site.
